I made a round coffee table from a pallet I found that had a unique grain and nice straight planks of hardwood. The legs are made from 2x wood scraps.
Prep the wood – Cut off any split or broken ends, prepare the planks for ripping on the table saw.
Rip the planks for the table top – The width of the cuts will be the thickness of the table
Place the planks and glueup the table top – Make sure to leave a gap without glue to split it into 2 parts you can fit in your planer.
Plane the table top the next day – Make sure the bottom is nice too as you’ll attach the legs there
Attach the 2 parts of the tabletop together – Make sure to clamp vertically also, to avoid bowing at the glue joint.
Trace and cut the circle from the glueup – I used a router to cut the circle. A jigsaw can be used to do a rough cut before sanding if you don’t have a router.
Detail the table top with a router – I used a roundover bit on top and a chamfer on the bottom.
Putty the table top – Fix all the nail holes and other defects, we will sand those flat next.
Sanding – Sand the table down to 220 grit and make sure you can’t feel any of the putty with your fingers.
Making the legs for the table – I used the band saw to cut curved legs
Attach the legs to the table – Make sure to add glue to any joint you do. I used a mix of pocket holes and butt joints.
Stain and finish the table – Make sure to follow the instructions of whatever products you use.
